Excel macro problems when file is on a network location

Because macro’s can cause a lot of harm when used wrong, they are by default blocked in several ways in Office 2010. When you are using Excel files from a network location, such as a document managing system or network share, macro’s might not work. A solution is to add the network location to your trusted locations. There are two ways to configure this: manually in your Office application or by policy.

Manually

1. Go to File > Options
2. Click on Trust Center > Trust Center Settings
3. Go to Trusted locations
4. Mark Allow trusted locations on my network
5. Click on Add new location
6. Fill in the network location, like \\filesrv\share01\docs or http://yourdms.domain.com
7. Mark Subfolders of this location are also trusted

By policy

Use the Office 2007, 2010 ADM templates to configure this:

1. Edit your policy and add the Office ADM templates
2. Navigate to User Configuration / Policies / Administrative templates / Classis Administrative Templates (ADM) / Microsoft Excel 200x / Excel Options / Security / Trust Center / Trusted Locations
3. Configure Allow Trusted Locations on the network as Enabled
4. Configure Trusted Location #1 (or any other number) with the appropriate settings:
Path: network location, like \\filesrv\share01\docs or http://yourdms.domain.com
Date: date of this change, if necessary
Description: description for this location, if necessary
Mark Allow sub folders if you also want all subfolders and content to be trusted
